The program included two sessions and covered a wide range of topics from various specialties. The contributions of all speakers were instrumental in highlighting the necessity of collaboration among healthcare teams for comprehensive patient care. Presentations were delivered by Dr. Ann Kummer, Dr. George Psaras, Dr. Christodoulos Laspos, Dr. Firas Khalil, Dr. Marios Argyridis, Dr. Dionysios Tafiadis, and Maria Kyriakou Solomonidou, M.S.
Internationally renowned Dr. Ann Kummer (USA) presented, with outstanding scientific clarity, the physiology of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI), along with modern approaches to the evaluation and treatment of speech and resonance disorders associated with it.
Presentations by speech-language pathologists from Cyprus and Greece offered valuable insights into practical assessment methods and therapeutic strategies for children with cleft conditions, while the ENT specialist emphasized the importance of maintaining hearing ability — a key factor in speech development.
The orthodontic aspect of care was explored through talks on long-term treatment planning and presurgical infant orthopedic techniques. On the plastic surgery front, presentations covered both functional and aesthetic considerations, including reconstructive procedures in cases of facial nerve paralysis.
Psychological support for children with cleft conditions was addressed with both sensitivity and scientific depth, stressing the need for a holistic approach to the needs of the child and their family.
The symposium offered an excellent opportunity for scientific dialogue, knowledge exchange, and networking among experts and emerging professionals.
Warm thanks to Hadjigregoriou Ltd, Evolution DP Ltd, and MSJ Jacovides for their generous sponsorship and support in making this event possible.
